Piper Rue Byrd Crossed the Rainbow Bridge Wednesday, January 28,2026 at home while being held by mom and dad. Born May 27, 2013 in Anderson, IN. She was rescued July 22, 2013 by her parents and brother Zack. Piper is survived by: Parents: Shane and Laura Byrd Bub: Zack (Morgan) Sissy: Onyx 2 cat sisters: Stevie and Jojo Preceded by dog brother Blue Piper was unofficially employed by Rural King Search and Rescue Dept. Her job was to search, rescue and dispose of any and all dog food on the floor. Piper loved her job and took it very serious! Off duty, some of her favorite activities included: anything mom and dad were doing, golf cart rides, boating, chasing rabbits & squirrels, Nakey scratches, camping, road trips especially to her Bub's house or Dairy Queen for a pup cup, dog friendly restaurants, napping, exploring and running in the field with mom, but mostly loyally loving and protecting her family. Piper was a happy, fun loving gal, full of smiles, kisses and tail wags. She truly was the sweetest girl who captured the hearts of everyone she met. She had very few dislikes, loud noises, storms, her people being upset, small children and despite being a pittie/retriever mix, Piper was not a fan of water. In her early years, she was highly influenced by her then teenage Bub, Zack. They had a strong bond and also shared a love for sleeping late, powerade, skittles, sour patch kids, and other sour candy. As she grew, Piper never outgrew most of those habits. Piper started each day with a pep talk from her mom. Where she was reassured that she was The goodest of the goodest girls, The prettiest pittiest princess in all the land, and that she was kind, she was smart, she was important and that she mattered. Piper will always have a place in our hearts and the people who met her. No amount of time with her would have been enough. Piper will forever be remembered for the happiness she brought to those who knew her. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Piper's family asks that you take a chance. Adopt, foster, volunteer, make a donation of goods, services or time to your favorite local animal shelter. Take a chance, it may be one of the best decisions you ever make.
