Lexi Dailey Rader

Lexi (“lexori”, “memes”, “rawry”, “zaazy”) was born on 01/26/07, and passed with her parents by her side on 09/27/23. She lived a long and happy life, just shy of her 17th birthday. She’s survived by her parents, Todd (Papa) and Angie (Mama), and her feather siblings, Maggie and Beaka. Lexi was a dedicated worker, who loved to do jobs! Her primary duties included protecting the house, patrolling the town for safety, dropping off the recycling, getting the mail from the post office, and other duties as assigned, like picking up food orders for her parents. Lexi did most of her jobs on foot and she was so very fast, with age preferring to ride in her vehicle when it was time to do her jobs. She looooved her rides with her Papa, the highlight of her days up until the very end. Her last ride was with both parents, in her big red truck, to the vet in an attempt to keep her here with us. Alas, it was her time to go and her little body needed to rest, so we sat with her as she crossed the rainbow bridge, on her own terms. With age, Lexi became much more friendly and social, which was not always the case in her younger years. She didn’t care much for toys, except for her alien. Alien became her companion, as she’d bring him to bed often to sleep with us. Lexi loved blankets, and had many. She was a professional rester and always ready to take a nap with someone. She loved being cuddled up in someone’s lap, under a blanket in her nook. She preferred to sleep that way as well, and somehow managed to take up more than half a queen-sized bed with her tiny 13-pound body. She had a smile so big it wasn’t even really a smile, it was grin, and she lit up with it and a happy tail every time she would see her Papa. She knew socks meant something fun, and she sure liked to do something fun… and to do something fun she knew she had to get her stuff (her leash and harness) and be fresh for her Dad. As her mobility declined, she learned to use her bridges despite some significant stubbornness initially and plenty of splats as she attempted to leap up on the couch or bed. She learned a game of “bridge” that included snacks to entice her to use them, and enjoyed playing this game very much. Lexi also loooved to snack and nothing was better than her green treats. She enjoyed scramblers on the weekends, her own special cookie when Mom made chocolate chip for everyone else, takeout, and any food given to her by Papa was always extra tasty. She loved to bask in the sun, and fall over (on purpose) in the yard while her Mama rubbed her chest and belly and she squiggled around. She was quick to sense “danger” outside and rushed to the patio door or front window to make sure we were all safe. Lexi knew her feather sister’s squawks of impeding danger and would rush to the rescue. Each work day the back door would open, Lexi new her Papa was home and would scramble to find him. She would have spent every minute of every day with her Papa if the choice were hers. She was often annoyed by her Mama’s attempts to assist her, and her stubbornness often came through because “I’ll do it myself”, all the way up to her last day. On her last day, she finally allowed her Mama to assist her without ta fight, just this one last time. Parts of our souls went with Lexi. Our hearts are heavy and life will never the be the same. She was loved so very much, and we hope she felt that every day with us. We’ll never forget Lexi, and her spirit will live with us until we get to be with her again. Rest that little body princess and stay fresh, Papa will need you to do a job again soon, so you’d better be ready.
