Dixie Gorman

Dixie was born on February 15, 2009 in Stevenson, Alabama and came into our lives May 9th that year. She was the tiniest little thing and the last of her litter, all the more reason to be so lucky to take her home. She eventually became Dixie D, Lil Dixie, Miss D, Doodlebug and Dixie Baby and joined our family of 5 with her new brother Roody and her half sisters Cash and Allie. She was immediately welcomed by her new siblings and became one of the family. Dixie loved to play with anything she could flip around especially ice cubes. Her favorite toy though was the laser pointer. As soon as the drawer opened where we kept it, she was right there ready to play even if you hadn't planned on getting it out to play, you were! And she loved shoes! As soon as they were off your feet, they were hers. And sometimes she wouldn't wait for them to be off, she would just make herself comfortable across your ankles and enjoy the shoes.Laying across ankles became her thing, shoes or not. If her Dad's feet were up and she was near, she had a welcomed spot. She just genuinely wanted to be near us. Dixie was not the typical "hold me cat". She would climb on your lap when SHE wanted and only as long as she wanted. Her feet were not to be touched unless you were loving on her head and neck and could sneak holding one of her back legs. We also called her Whistling Dixie because she would sleep so sound at times, she would snore and whistle when she breathed. She knew when you were in a bad mood or sad mood and just what to do to make you feel better. She was happy and playful and brought youth and activity to the house every single day. She'd be the first one to meet us at the door when we got home and the first one in bed to kneed you to sleep. She loved our bath time too. We'd put out a towel on the counter for her to lay on while she waited on us to finish, then let us love on her with fresh clean skin she would smell and rub with her face and paws. It was the one time she was free to love on for any length of time. She was in a trance. She never had bad day, or at least never showed it, even up to the very end. She was even swatting a string 3 days before her last. DIXIE LEFT US TO SOON. Dixie left us March 4, 2017 at 11am. It was a nice, clear sunny day as she made her way to heaven. At just 8 years old, we didn't get all the time we wanted with her, but God had other plans. We LOVE You and will see You again one day in Heaven Dixie D, Lil Dixie, Miss D, Doodlebug and Dixie Baby...my ankles are yours and we will hear you again as you sleep so sound as our Whistling Dixie.
