Maplewood's It's All About Me Titles/Awards: CGC, RN, Therapy Dog In Memory of Mimi I received Mimi from Maplewood Estates in Ohio when she was 12 weeks old – a fat, round ball of black wrinkles who stole my heart in the first minute. I hadn't meant to get a new puppy, but she decided differently. We had such wonderful fun together. She loved to show and was major-pointed with only one win to go for a Championship. Unfortunately, an illness when she was 4 years old put an end to her conformation show career, but she didn't become a couch potato. Mimi went on to receive her Canine Good Citizen award, her Rally Novice title, and qualified to be a Therapy Dog. We visited a local nursing home every week to the delight of the residents. Mimi loved to play. It didn't matter if it was with people or other pets. Her front paws would go down, her tail would go up, and all the wrinkles would roll. She would bounce around like a black beach ball. She loved all squeaky toys, but the round, fluffy ones were her favorite. She would walk around with a mouthful of toy – squeak, squeak, squeak – and then smile. She also loved to run the agility tunnels and do the floating board. Tag was a special favorite game. Her favorite treat was JellyBelly Jelly Beans. No other brand would do. She would just spit them out. Of course, anything that her people were eating was good – although I think she was lying on the fresh peaches if the expression on her face was any indication! And we will never forget the time she took the whole cone instead of one lick – if a dog can get an ice cream headache, I'm sure she had one. She adored going for car rides. I don't know how she knew, but a few miles from any show site, she would be at the window, tail wagging, talking to me with little barks, excitement showing in her bright eyes. There are so many memories to share and so many friends: Christine Smith her breeder, Marcia & Carol Troxell who had Elvis, the father of Mimi's puppies 2 are now in the top 25 Shar-Pei in the US, and one more only needs a win to champion, the Betts family who were like family to the puppies, the Lenox family, Sarah Whinery & Ken Smith, Michelle Szakel who was with us during Mimi's final moments, all of the members of the Hoosier State Chinese Shar-Pei Club and the Muncie Obedience Training Club. My darling Mimi was unexpectedly called across the Rainbow Bridge early on Labor Day morning after a brief illness. I will miss the paw on my leg that said "pet me". And when I would stop, "pet me more". I will miss the soft nose kisses and the sloppy tongue kisses and the cuddles. I will never forget our last day together. I miss you, my beautiful girl.
