Licorice Williams

Licorice ("Missy Lick", "attitude dog", "perfect puppy") in 2007- I adopted Licorice from someone I worked with when she was just 6 weeks old. Licorice passed on December 3, 2022. She is survived by her pet parent, Elaine Williams, and pet siblings: Denver (dog), Cotton (dog), Myla (dog), Marley (dog) Miss Meeny (cat), Mr. Shadow (cat), Bucky (dog) (all of these survived Licorice). She is also survived by other humans: Aurelia Williams, Evan Spencer, Joshua Malone, Kaitlyn Malone, and Melissa Odom. Licorice liked to shred paper. Any piece of paper she could find, she would rip into shreds. Her favorite activities were chasing after other dogs if she got loose. Licorice seemed to be extremely brave and have no idea that she was a small dog. If she got loose, she would go right up to a really big dog and start barking in its face. She also liked to bark at my other little dogs to keep them from jumping up on the bed and sleeping with me too. When she was younger, if she got loose, she would chase cars. Luckily, she outgrew that habit before she got hurt. Licorice was an escape artist. She would sneak up really quietly between me and the door that I was getting ready to open and she would sneak out before I would realize that she was even there. She would also dig under the privacy fence in the backyard in order to escape so that I had to string barbed wire along the bottom of the fence. All of those things could be challenging, but the persistence that she showed in trying to “be in charge” was also very endearing. Licorice's least favorite thing was: Thunder. In spite of Licorice being brave in all other circumstances, if it started to thunder outside, she would jump up on my bed, and curl up on one of the shelves of my bookcase headboard, and try to protect herself from the sound. The other lease favorite thing was having her nails trimmed. She absolutely would not let anyone trim her nails, but she kept them chewed down to a reasonable length on her own. Favorite Place to Sleep: Licorice always slept in bed with me. Favorite Memories: Licorice was so tiny when I first got her. I could hold her in just my two hands. She never got very big, but did grow to be about 15 pounds. She always had a kink in her tail like perhaps two of the vertebrae in her tail were misaligned. It didn’t seem to bother her though, and I am not sure if she was born that way, or if something happened to her tail when she was a tiny puppy. Sometimes the way she could jump from surface to surface or get up on the back of furniture seemed more like a cat than a dog. I called her “attitude dog” because she had an attitude with my other dogs and didn’t want them spending time with me, and also because she would confront bigger dogs and stand and bark in their faces. I also called her my “perfect puppy” because she just always did everything right for me. She never got into any trouble (except for her paper shredding). I don’t even remember having to house break her. She just automatically went outside to potty. I was never sure what breeds of dog, Licorice was, so had her DNA done.
