Autumn Culver

We adopted our precious little Autumn (Clarice, sweet girl, baby bug, peanut, pumpkin) on April 8, 2008. She was about a year old when we adopted her. The rescue had named her Autumn and since that is my favorite season, we kept her name the same. She was a wonderful, smart, sweet, energetic girl who brought so much joy to our lives. She gave the best hugs (when you picked her up, she would lay her head on your shoulder). She was just a delight and a blessing. There is so much to say about her. Autumn loved to sing with her dog dad Gary. Everyday when he came home from work, they would sing together, first a song that Gary wrote for her and ending with her favorite song Teddy Bear by Elvis Presley. By the time they got to that song Autumn would be loudly howling. I would have conversations with her (one sided of course) and she learned so many words. She LOVED “doglet joy rides” in the truck so we had to be careful to say those words when we were ready to go because she would just be beside herself with excitement. We started spelling the words hoping to contain her excitement until we were ready to leave but she learned how to spell too. Autumn’s dog sibling, Bailey, also a Shih Tzu, was about 2 years younger. The two got along so well you would have thought they were actual sisters. They hung out together, wrestled, played tug of war with their favorite toys and slept together. Bailey passed away in February of this year. Autumn’s favorite food was peanut butter and when the peanut butter jar came out, she would display the cutest little teeth like she was smiling. She loved camping, especially sitting by the campfire. Both dogs had their own camp chairs, but they preferred cuddling up together in blankets on the same chair. She also loved jumping into a pile of warm towels from the dryer and would burrow in making a game of it by flipping on her back, growling & barking, taunting me to reach in and find her. Autumn loved baths, especially the shower part. When she saw me getting the bath ready, she would put her little paws on the side of the bathtub in anticipation of getting her spa treatment. She loved sleeping with us at night. Our precious Autumn had Canine Cognitive Dysfunction the last 3 years of her life and on July 23, 2024, we had to say goodbye to her. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. We love her with every fiber of our being and will hold her in our hearts forever. Autumn is survived by her pet parents Gary, and Carolyn who miss her so much. Our home feels so empty now with both of our girls gone.
