Tarful Smith

January 1, 2005 - January 6, 2018

Tarfful Smith (The Big Sniff) was a giant dog with an infinite soul. This half Dane/half lab dug a hole in our hearts and life that can never be filled. He gave us things we needed that no one else could, and asked for nothing in return. Although, he did sometimes take and swallow things in one bite. Entire uncooked frozen pizzas, foot long hot dogs; and once an entire chicken breast, bones and all. Over 13 years ago he came into our lives from a shelter as an underweight and mange infected creature, who rapidly healed with our love. He returned the love infinite times over. He loved sleeping, laying next to us, patrolling the world, and of course eating. When he inhaled and gathered himself to loose his enormous bark, most of the oxygen was sucked from the room. His bite could have been much worse than his immense bark, but he was a lover, not a biter. When we walked the neighborhood and parks, kids flocked to him as if he was the pied piper, and they were rats. Once, he flocked to the kids by boarding a school bus full of them. Everyone who met him, left with a story. It is one of the lowest points in our life when his story ended on the morning of January 6, 2018. We love him and will miss him every day for as long as we live.
